How long will the therapy last?

Foremost, I respect client autonomy to facilitate the most effective therapy for both individual clients and couples.

Every individual or couple is unique and the issues or concerns in psychosexual and relationship therapy are wide-ranging; from resolving communication difficulties or more complex in terms of the respective psychosexual issue to address and our feelings around it. If more general counselling is required with some psychotherapy to explore patterns of behaviour and to increase self-awareness; I offer a holistic framework to support you based on my training and experience.

I can offer time-limited therapy (minimum 8-12 sessions), but generally therapy is not confined to a limited number of sessions and may last a few weeks or a few months.

How often do the sessions take place and how long is each session?

We will meet for a first session (50 mins) as an opportunity to get to know each other and find out why you have decided to seek help. You will share what you hope to achieve through the therapy process.

If you decide to proceed then we will agree a regular day and time each week and this slot will be reserved for you. Each session lasts 50 minutes. I sometimes offer sessions every other week for some clients, but on a case by case basis.

Contract and cancellation policy

My professional bodies (COSRT and BACP) require a contract is signed by both parties. My cancellation policy is based on weekly sessions and 2 cancellations are allowed (with at least 48 hours’ notice) within each 6 months of therapy.

Is there homework to do?

Yes, sometimes it’s just reading and reflection for psychoeducational purposes and at other times, it may include behavioural exercises which will help with communication and mindfulness for example, or reawakening your sensuality. These will be undertaken at home in between sessions. It really depends on what comes up in the process, as the sessions are client-led and organic.

The therapeutic relationship itself supports individuals and couples in rediscovering and reclaiming themselves, whilst developing healthier self-esteem and sexual well-being (if applicable) based on self-knowledge.
